This boss adaptor is essentially a blank end that has been drilled and tapped with a 2" BSP thread.
It can be used to connect waste pipes into another fitting.
As Halifax cast iron soil pipes and fittings have no sockets a coupler is required to connect this boss adaptor to the receiving fitting.
