Pumping Stations are used in an underground drainage system when gravity drainage is unable to be installed on-site, meaning the waste or surface water needs to be pumped from one place to the nearest gravity drain. A common use is to take surplus water from or to an attenuation tank where gravity is not an option.
Our packaged pump stations are sourced from reputable manufacturers and typically consist of an underground storage chamber fitted with either a single or twin pump. They may also come with components such as pipework, alarms, control panels and battery backups.
Types of Pumping Stations
At DrainageSales, we offer a wide range of pumping stations, including:
Sewage pumping stations - these are the most popular type of pumping station and they are used for transporting waste and foul water from a property to a sewage system. We offer both commercial and domestic sewage pumping stations to suit all manner of wastewater applications.
Surface water pumping stations - these pump stations are used to help manage stormwater and grey water, they collect the water from a chosen inlet method and pump it into a sewer network. The most common application for these pumping stations is a below-ground installation that collects surface water from a basement conversion.
Single pump stations - available for both foul and surface water applications, these pumping stations are suitable for pumping the water from a home extension or outbuilding.
Twin pumping stations - a twin pump is what we would recommend for a full house or commercial building. The benefit of having a second pump is that if one were to fail, the second pump can pick up the slack whilst you organise for repairs to be made.
Macerators - also known as grinder pumps, a macerator pumping station is used in applications where larger pieces of waste may enter the tank. The macerator will break up the waste before pumping it out to the sewer line. Please note: this is not a wastewater treatment process, which is where a sewage treatment plant would be required.
Components of Our Pump Systems
Pumps - the core component of any pumping station, pumps are what allow for these stations to move water. Once they are triggered, they create pressure within the tank to force the water upwards or horizontally through the outlet pipes and into the sewer system.
Float switch - these act as a sensor within the tank that detects the level of water. Once the water inside reaches a certain level, they trigger the pump to activate.
Alarm - an alarm is an important component of a pump station, they provide key information about the state of the tank and will inform you if it is experiencing issues such as blockages or water ingress.
Access cover - all of the pumping stations we offer are supplied with a pedestrian-rated cover, for increased load bearing strength.
Tank - the outer tank of our pumping stations are all made from either medium or high density polyethene, which makes them highly durable.
Non return valve - these are fitted on the outlet of the pumping station to prevent any water from re-entering the tank after it is pumped out into the sewage pipe.
Applications and Use Cases
With over 100 unique options to choose from in our comprehensive range, we offer pumping stations in many shapes, sizes and flow rates for all types of applications. Our aqua pumping stations are specifically designed for surface water applications and are on the smaller end of the water pumps that we offer. Along with the micro stations, which are suitable for wastewater, aqua pumps are ideal for domestic applications such as a basement conversion and are a great alternative to a septic tank.
Mini and Maxi pumping stations can be used for both foul and surface water and due to their larger storage capacities, they are suitable for larger residential or small commercial applications. Mega pumping stations are the largest we offer in our range and can be used in industrial applications and housing developments.
Benefits of Choosing Our Packaged Pumping Stations
