Pumping Stations

Pumping Stations are used when gravity drainage is unable to be installed on-site meaning the waste or surface water needs to be pumped from one place to the nearest gravity drain.  A common use is to take surplus water from or to an attenuation tank where gravity is not an option.

Our packaged Pump Stations are sourced from reputable manufacturers and typically consist of an underground storage chamber fitted with either a single or twin pump.

Both Foul and Surface Water Stations can be designed and supplied from a small single pump station for a basement to adoptable stations (sewers for adoption). We offer both single and twin pump systems, which can come in varying diameters from 600mm to 1500mm.

How Does A Pumping Station Work?

The pumping station components work together to move sewage from a specific location to another, often for disposal.

The pumps are fitted with a float switch, which is a sensor designed to detect the level of liquid within the station. Sewage collects in the pumping station tank, and once it reaches a certain level, this activates the float switch and the pump will kick into action.

The pump creates enough pressure to move the sewage out of the tank, forcing it either uphill or horizontally through the pipes to the main sewer line. The pump will then turn off automatically when the process is complete and will kick in again once the float switch is tripped.

How Big Are The Pumps?

The pumping stations vary in size depending on the capacity they can pump. Our pumping stations range between 670mm-1500mm in diameter.

How Far/Steep Can They Pump?

With our pumping stations, the height being pumped determines the distance it can go – with a greater height meaning a lesser distance. Standard pumps can pump to a height of 6 metres, but we can supply larger pumps to manage a height of 10 metres.

How Many Litres Do I Need Per Person or Room?

In order to work out how many litres you need for your pumping station, it is recommended to use the work out the number of rooms in your property plus 2, then multiply this by 150 to give your final litre amount. For example, if you are working on a 3 room property, the formula would be as follows: (3+2)x150 to equal a pumping station of 750 litres.

Packaged Pump Stations

Our Packaged Pump Station ranges come in a variety of diameters from 600mm to 1500mm with storage capacities from 200 litres up to in excess of 4000 litres making them perfect in both domestic and commercial premises. For storage capacities over this, our team are on hand to help source whatever products your project requires, just get in touch!

The pump chambers typically consist of an underground storage chamber with 110mm & 160mm drainage pipes connections.

Wastewater from the property then feeds into the chamber and the pump (or pumps) are activated electronically when the wastewater reaches a certain level inside the chamber. This water is then pumped via a rising main pipe which is connected at the top of the chamber to the mains sewer.
