Catchpit Chambers

Catchpit chambers are strategically placed underground chambers incorporated into a drainage network. These chambers play a vital role in capturing and accumulating debris carried by stormwater runoff, thereby safeguarding the performance and longevity of the entire drainage system.

What is a Catchpit?

A catchpit, positioned within an underground drainage network, is specifically designed to capture sediment, leaves, twigs, gravel, sand, and other loose materials carried by stormwater runoff. By intercepting this debris before it reaches critical sections of the drainage system, catch pits play a crucial role in preventing blockages and ensuring optimal system performance.

How Catchpits Work

The strategic placement of catch pit chambers within the drainage network is essential for their effectiveness. Typically, catchpits are installed upstream within the pipe network, strategically positioned to capture debris before it reaches critical junctions or long pipe runs where blockages can be particularly disruptive and expensive to resolve.

  • Gravity at Work: As water enters the catch pit chamber through the designated inlet pipe, the flow velocity decreases. This decrease in velocity allows heavier materials such as sediment and debris to settle out of the water and accumulate at the bottom of the chamber within a designated area called the sump.
  • Separation and Flow: The clarified water then exits the catchpit chamber through a separate outlet pipe positioned at a lower level, ensuring continued flow within the drainage system. This separation of water and debris within the chamber is fundamental to its functionality.

Cleaning Catchpits for Optimal Performance

The accumulated sediment and debris within the sump of a catchpit chamber will gradually increase over time. To prevent blockages and maintain optimal system performance, it's essential to schedule regular cleaning and maintenance of your catchpit chambers. This typically involves removing the chamber cover and using a jet-vac tanker or other suitable equipment to remove the accumulated material. The frequency of cleaning will depend on various factors such as catchment area size, debris load, and weather patterns.

The Accesso Blue Catchpit Chamber Range by Turtle Enviro

Our Accesso Blue range of catchpit inspection chambers, manufactured by Turtle Enviro, provides a reliable and user-friendly solution for your drainage needs. These chambers are known for the following key features and benefits:

  • Material: Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) – This rotationally moulded material offers exceptional chemical resistance and impact strength, making it ideal for the demanding environment of foul water drainage.
  • Simple and Efficient Installation: The pre-fabricated design allows for a quick and straightforward installation process, reducing project timelines and labour costs.
  • Profiled Base for Enhanced Strength: The strategically designed base profile offers superior structural integrity, allowing the chambers to withstand significant loads from surrounding backfill material.
  • Effective Sump Design: The integrated sump within the chamber effectively captures and stores debris, preventing it from entering the main drainage system.
  • Adaptable Access Shafts: The access shafts of these chambers can be easily cut on-site to achieve the precise depth needed for your project, ensuring a proper fit within the trench.
  • Compatibility with UK Twinwall Pipe Systems: Our chambers seamlessly integrate with all commonly used UK Twinwall pipe systems, simplifying installation and promoting a watertight connection.
  • Guaranteed Quality and Compliance: Manufactured in the UK, our catchpit chambers adhere to the rigorous standards set forth by BS EN 13598-2 (2009), guaranteeing exceptional quality and durability.

Inlet + Outlet optionsInlet and Outlet Options for Adaptability

Our Accesso Blue chambers come standard with either a 150mm or 225mm twinwall inlet/outlet configuration. The standard outlet pipe is positioned at 0 degrees, while the standard inlet is at 180 degrees unless otherwise specified during checkout.

We can accommodate additional inlets based on the diameter and positioning required for your project. For instance, a catchpit chamber located at the corner of a building may require inlets on two or even three sides.

Delivery Information

Please note that standard catchpit inspection chambers typically have a 3-5 day delivery lead time. Customised products may require additional processing time.
