Cable Ducting Colour Identification Chart

Ducting is supplied in a range of colours for different applications. This is especially important when the cables are buried underground, as it makes them more identifiable. These colour codes are universal throughout the UK, and we sell ducting systems for the following uses and in the following colours:

 

Colour Image Use  
Black Black Ducting Used for domestic mains electric cables underground, which carry low voltage electricity to homes and buildings. This cable ducting must be installed at least 450mm below the surface and have warning tape above it. SHOP >>
Blue Blue Ducting Used for water pipes carrying drinking water to properties. The underground cable ducting must be installed at least 750mm below the surface to avoid frost damage. SHOP >>
Purple Purple Ducting Used for motorway service cables, which carry National Roads Telecommunications Services such as emergency phones, speed cameras and traffic monitoring. This underground ducting must be installed at least 600mm below the surface and have warning tape above it. SHOP >>
Green Green Ducting Used for broadband, telephone and non-motorway CCTV cables, which carry communication signals and data. This cable ducting must be installed at least 350mm below the surface and have warning tape above it. SHOP >>
Yellow Yellow Ducting Used for service and mains gas cables, which carry natural gas to households and businesses. We supply perforated cable ducting, which allows gas to vent safely in case of a leak. This underground ducting must be installed at least 600mm below the surface and have warning tape above it. Orange Orange Ducting Used for street lighting and traffic signalling cables, which carry electricity and control signals for lights and traffic devices. The ducting must be installed at least 450mm below the surface and have warning tape above it. SHOP >>
Grey Grey Telecoms Ducting Used for BT or telecommunications cables that carry phone and internet services. The ducting must be installed at least 350mm below the surface and have warning tape installed above it. The ducting must also comply with BT’s specifications. SHOP >>
