Cutting a Thread - Getting the Nut Started

If you’ve ever had trouble trying to get a nut started after cutting a male thread, here’s a tip.

Before you start cutting a new portion of thread:

  1. Wind a nut on to a section of thread that is past the section that you are cutting.
  2. Clean up the end with a fine file or some emery paper and wind the nut back up the new section. This will help to properly clean the end you have cut, creating a better start to the thread.
